TikTok to Lay Off Hundreds of Employees as It Increases Reliance on AI
The short video-sharing platform TikTok is laying off hundreds of employees globally, with a significant number of cuts expected in Malaysia. The company made this announcement on Thursday, according to a report by Reuters.
The report states that the layoffs are aimed at enhancing AI-driven content moderation.
Two sources familiar with the matter revealed that over 700 employees will be laid off in Malaysia. However, TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance, has stated that fewer than 500 employees will be affected by this decision.
Most of the laid-off employees are from TikTok’s content moderation department.
Currently, ByteDance employs over 110,000 people across more than 200 cities worldwide.
